ITANAGAR: Renowned sculptor of North East, Biren Singha, who hails from Assam, is ‘set’ to shape his fine carvings to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Tai Khamti and the Singpho communities.

Biren Singha, who is in Namsai district on the invitation of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, visited important sites in the district which are either displaying or housing arts and artifacts of the two communities.

One of the nearest testimonies of his work is the statue of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, installed at Bolung near Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district of the State.

Biren Singha will be sculpting statues which will showcase the rich culture and heritage of the two communities. One of the sites for such installations will be the multipurpose cultural hall at Namsai, which on completion will be a state-of-the-art facility, said an official press note.

Mein said that he invited Singha, who happens to be his old friend, to enable installing the creations of the famed artist which will mirror the land and people of Namsai district.

Singha said that folklores form an integral part of a tribe’s identity, and added that the cultural aspect is an introduction of the community. Singha is planning for conducting a workshop on sculpting for budding youths sometime in 2020, the release added.
