NAHARLAGUN: In continuation of the drive against malpractices and overpricing on essential commodities during the present crisis due to COVID-19, the Town magistrate Tenzing Jambey and the Inspector Legal Metrology & CA, Tawang District Keshang Tashi has in their joint inspection booked 7 traders for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

The team has conducted a surprise inspection in the main market of Tawang Township and booked 7 traders for selling packaged commodities without the mandatory information as required under the Rules, including two traders for selling some products with erased MRP printed by the manufacturer. They have been booked under Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

Earlier on last Tuesday, on receipt of a complaint of overcharging against a trader of Bomdir Supply area some 20 km away from Tawang, the LMO team led by Kesang Tashi, Inspector, raided the shop. As alleged by the consumer, the shopkeeper was in fact found keeping some branded products in packaged form with erased MRP. Accordingly, sample products seized and booked the trader for manipulating the label printed by the Manufacturer. Four more traders of the same locality were also booked for similar offences and non-declaration of complete information as required under the Rules.

Taking serious note of manipulation of price tag, Tashi warned traders not to indulge any act tantamount to deceive their own customers and the consumer as a whole or to face stringent action as per the provisions of the LM Act.
