ITANAGAR: Standing tall in its demand, Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum (SIFF) has again asked the state government and the executing agency of 10000 MW Mega Dam at Siang to back out.

Briefing the reporters here at press club on Thursday, SIFF general secretary Tasik Pangkam informed that Chief Minister Pema Khandu had earlier assured for the cancellation of the project within a month. “It is very sad to know that around 15 Hydro Projects in the state have been canceled, according to the details found by Right to Information (RTI) but the Siang Dam has not been,” Pangkam said.

The forum also asked the state power minister Tamiyo Taga to apologies the people of greater Siang for stating that, “No one should create obstacles in the construction of Stage-I, II and III of Siang Hydro Electric projects in the district.” Taga had said this while addressing the public at the general conference of Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) on October 28th at Pasighat.

Pangkam said that, how can ministers who without consulting and organizing a public hearing on the hydro project easily ask the people not to create a disturbance. He as a local representative should first seek for public acceptance and know the real problem faced by the people. “We have been agitating against the hydro project since many years and thus he (Tamiyo Taga) should ask public apology on his statement or we will call for democratic movement which may impact on his political carrier as well as image,” he added.
