Special Investigation Cell (SIC) sleuths arrest two officials of Education department

Itanagar: The Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of the Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested two officials of the Education department on charges of malpractices, a police official said here on Wednesday.

Former Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) of Kamle district Likha Togur and Junior Engineer Pani Jubi were arrested on Monday evening, SIC SP M Harsha Vardhan informed.

Both were produced before the court on Tuesday which remanded them under police custody for seven days, the SP said and added that further investigation has been launched.

He said that SIC was investigating a regular case registered against the education department of Kamle district for alleged irregularities, malpractices made with regards to implementation of several flagship schemes like CMSSY (Chief Minister Samast Shiksha Yojana), ISSE (Integrated Scheme for School Education), Samagra Shiksha, etc.

“There have been several complaints of gross malpractice in implementation of the central and state sponsored schemes in the district,” the SP said and added that investigation would continue.

Reportedly, a case was registered earlier in the Crime Branch under Itanagar Police Station under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

“During the course of investigation and on the basis of evidences, we found that without proper implementation of the work, fake completion certificate was given to draw the fund,” the SP informed.

“The case was registered in 2019 and as of now, the exact amount of fund misappropriation was yet to be ascertained. Matter is still under investigation and we are waiting for more documentary evidences,” he added.

The All Kamle District Students Union had earlier carried out a series of democratic movement demanding arrest of officers in connection with alleged misappropriation and siphoning off government fund in name of students welfare and creation of several infrastructure in the district.
