TAWANG: A special Outreach programme on “Swachhta Bharat Abhiyan (SBM)” was organized by Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Tawang unit at Shyo village on Wednesday.

The motto of organizing the awareness programme on SBM was to sensitize the local people about maintenance of cleanliness in their daily life, segregation of household waste, elimination of Manual Scavenging and to adopt modern and scientific waste management system. Addressing his keynote speech FOB Head, Tawang Unit L. Dawa said that SBA is a nationwide cleanliness mission launched by the Prime minister of India, Narendra Modi on 2nd October 2014 with an aim to accomplish the vision of Clean India by 2nd October 2019, on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of the Father of Nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi”.

He requested the villagers present in the meeting to join this mission by maintaining cleanliness in and around their village and by disposing of household waste in a proper and scientific way.

In his presentation Consultant W/S PHED Tawang Tenzin Phenday said that the PHED, Tawang is providing three to four Solid Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) in every Gram Panchayat to enable the villagers to dispose of household waste in a proper and scientific way.

“The entire households are also provided with IHHL in order to stop open defecation,” he added. He also talked about the ill effects of open defecation, use of polythene bags and ways to segregate bio-degradable and non bio-degradable waste.

The main highlights of the day long programme were awareness rally, Quiz competition, public meeting, Photo exhibition and Prize distribution.
