State to conduct research on tribal languages: Mama Natung

Itanagar: State Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Mama Natung on Thursday said that the government is planning to conduct research on various tribal languages of the State for their conservation.

Attending the Podi-Barbi festival of the Adi community at Mopin-Solung ground here, the minister informed that the government would soon conduct research on various languages through the Art & Culture department for their conservation.

He called upon the tribal communities to preserve their languages in written form for future generations.

“To promote and preserve tribal languages, the State Government has already taken up a decision to introduce local languages as subjects in every government school of the state,” Natung informed while extending festival greetings to the community.

Lauding the Adi community for its rich culture and tradition, Natung said, “One cannot find information on our rich culture and tradition in Google or any other search engines but it has to be inherited from our ancestors.”

He said, Adi community is one among few in the state who speaks with each other in their own dialect and thereby maintaining a trend for conservation of their unique language.

The minister also called upon the communities of the State to remain united for a strong and developed Arunachal.

BJP Kishan Morcha’s national executive member Taro Pussangg in his deliberations, stressed on preservation of tribal culture and tradition for the future generations.

He appealed to the youths of the Adi community to uphold their traditions while moving forward with modernity.

Organising committee president Tasap Kochung while highlighting the mythology of the Podi-Barbi festival, urged the people to maintain the sanctity of the festival.

Various cultural and sports events besides community feast were organized to mark the occasion.

Podi-Barbi festival is mainly celebrated by the Adis of Mechuka, Monigong and Tato in the newly created Shi Yomi district. It is an occasion to extend gratitude to deities and Mother Nature for bumper harvest.
