‘Tales from the Dawn-lit Mountains’ by Subi Taba Launched in Itanagar

ITANAGAR: Tales from the Dawn-lit Mountains, a captivating collection of stories by agriculture development officer Subi Taba, was officially launched in a warm and vibrant literary event at the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, here on Sunday.

Published by Penguin Random House, the book has already drawn praise for its rich portrayal of the state’s oral traditions and cultural heritage.

The launch event was attended by several eminent personalities, including Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi awardee Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Disaster Management secretary Dani Sulu, IPR Director Gijum Tali, Rajiv Gandhi University Registrar Dr N T Rikam, Principal of Government College Seppa Dr Robin Hissang, and Dr Ashok Pandey from Dera Natung Government College, alongside members of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS).

Speaking at the event, Thongchi described the book as a lyrical preservation of Arunachal’s oral traditions, rich with emotion and timeless wisdom. Dani Sulu commended Subi Taba’s determination to complete and publish the book despite her responsibilities as a government officer. Gijum Tali called the work an essential addition to Arunachali literature, while Dr Rikam highlighted its role in bridging folklore with literary expression and inspiring younger generations to reconnect with their roots. Literary critic Dr Bompi Riba also presented a thoughtful review of the book, praising its use of lyrical prose and magical realism to bring the region’s myths and landscapes to life.

The event, jointly organised by the author and APLS, featured a discussion with the author moderated by Yater Nyokir, followed by an interaction with readers and a book signing session.

The evening celebrated not just a book, but the enduring spirit of the state’s storytelling legacy.
