Tawang celebrates Dalai Lama’s Noble prize anniversary

Itanagar: The villagers of Shyo Village in Tawang, in collaboration with Indo Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS), an NGO on Monday celebrated the 29th anniversary of Nobel Peace prize conferred to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama was presented the prestigious award in the year 1989.

Thousands of people from Tawang Township and nearby villages attended the celebration which was graced by Department of Karmic and Adhyatmik Affairs (DOKAA) chairman Jambey Wangdi, an official release informed

Addressing the people conveyed warm wishes to all and appreciated the organisers for continuously celebrating the occasion and other important occasion every year.

He further requested the organisers to continue the tradition and also asked the youths to shoulder the responsibility to carry forward the tradition and preserve the culture.

Wangdi informed that youth selected by DOKAA for learning traditional arts were doing well and recently had the opportunity to perform at Sankisa before the Dalai Lama.

“We should be humble and respectful to each other in our conduct,” he added. Senior monk from Tawang Monastery Lama Ngawang Norbu also spoke on the occasion, the release added.
