There is lack of awareness about schemes for minority communities: Minister John Barla

ITANAGAR: Minister of State for Minority Affairs, John Barla on Thursday said that due to the lack of proper awareness and knowledge among the officials of many State Minority Affairs departments, numerous schemes which are beneficial for the minority communities are not implemented properly.

Addressing the media at the CS conference hall, civil secretariat here, Barla said, besides the scholarship schemes, many of the department officials from the State are unaware of the other schemes. Therefore, he is visiting different States to create awareness on the schemes. He said the Ministry of Minority Affairs will soon call officials to New Delhi where they will be provided detailed knowledge on the schemes.

"Like Arunachal Pradesh, many other States are also unaware of schemes. Therefore, today I met with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Commissioners of different districts and directed them to create more awareness about the schemes," he said.

Among many, he said the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) is one of schemes which seek to provide better socio-economic infrastructure facilities to the minority communities, particularly in the field of education, health and skill development. He said that it is much easier and better to avail the scheme in the State as 90 per cent fund is provided by the Central government and only 10 per cent fund by the State government.

"Whereas, other States have to pay 40 per cent while the remaining 60 per cent is funded by the Central government," he said, appealing to the State government to write proposals to the Union ministry to avail the benefits to the fullest. He also informed that a residential school and one community hall at Tawang was announced during his visit to the district. Likewise, the Union ministry was ready to provide all support to other minority communities settled in different districts of the State.
