ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on Tuesday while speaking at a review meeting of the Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM), asked the agency to think out of the box in order to uplift the livelihoods of the people of the state in a true sense.

There are various activities which are being undertaken and planned by the ArSRLM for sustainable income including, promotion of honey clusters, value added services of agri-horti products like value addition, packaging and branding.

In order to achieve the objective of the ArSRLM, which is to reduce poverty by enabling the poor households to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis, through building grassroots institutions of the poor, the Chief Secretary advised to choose the activities as per the relevance of that area. The ArSRLM has set a target to help form 6000 SHGs by March 31 this year. Kumar said that ArSRLM should play the role of a facilitator and promoter, create a supportive environment for the growth and development of the SHGs in the state.

"Monitoring of the SHGs was one of the main aspects," Kumar emphasized and directed to ensure that the government schemes for the economic empowerment of the weaker and marginalised groups reaches the actual beneficiaries. He further asked them to work in a mission mode to uplift the economically marginalised household from the threshold of poverty.

In the meeting, various activities being implemented and undertaken by the ArSRLM like formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs), Credit Linkage of the SHGs including the credit linkage of 385 numbers of SHGs for the Aatma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojana (ANBY) and Aatma Nirbhar Krishi Yojana (ANKY) were reviewed.

Schemes like additional credit support from formal institutions, 85 Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Vikas Kendra clusters, Arunachal Gramin Express Yojana, Mothers Kitchen and Mothers Cafe, Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME), proposal for setting up of Advanced Sanitary Pad making unit and others were also discussed and reviewed. Planning Commissioner P S Lokhande, RD & PRI Secretary A R Talwade, CEO ArSRLM Solung Miji and others were present in the meeting.
