ITANAGAR: The capital police arrested three Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) cadres along with arms and ammunition from a city hotel recently.

The cadets were identified as Jahirul Rahman (30) from Dibrugarh, Assam, Awang Hodong (28) from Tirap district and Gangkhah Gangsa (24) from Longding district.

Addressing the reporters on Tuesday, capital SP Jimmy Chiram said at around 3pm on December 18, the police received information from the intelligence branch of some anti-social elements in the state capital holding up in a city hotel for extortion with suspected weapons. He said, accordingly a team led by SDPO Kamdam Sikom, Deputy SP (Traffic Cell) Nobin Jomoh, OC Phassang Simi, special branch officer Habung Tapa along with others cordoned the hotel and successfully apprehended the extortionist.

"The team seized one made in Russia .22 pistols, 10 rounds of live ammunition, two local knives and cash Rs 49,630. The seizure also included two extortion demand notes and one Tata Nexon car," Chiram said.

A case has been registered at Itanagar PS Case no. 513/2021 U/S 384/34 IPC r/w Section 27 Arms Act. Chiram also informed that during the interrogation, it was revealed that they worked for ENNG underground outfit which is mostly active in the TCL region of the State. "The motive of their visit to the capital city was to extort money from public leaders and officers for Christmas and New Year celebrations. They had also earlier come to Itanagar many times with their general secretary, Tamai Wancho and extorted money for the organization," Chiram said.

Earlier, the accused were forwarded to JMFC, Yupia and then remanded for four days of police custody for investigation, Chiram added. Further, Chiram also appealed to the public to inform the police of any kind of such suspicious activity.
