SEPPA: The Hayang Memorial Agro-Industrial & Education Trust organized a two-day training programme to preserve the traditional & folk arts, manuscripts, literature, crafts and documentation of cultural activities at the Pabua Government Middle School near here.

The programme started on October 1 and concluded on Thursday. The training was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, BTI Section, Government of India.

Attending the programme, retired Sub Inspector Sangku Gyadi appealed to the youths to preserve the age-old tradition & culture of the tribal society. Pointing out that the tribals generally coexist with Mother Nature, he, pointed out that of late many have lost their values due to modernization.

Also sharing his views, Headmaster of the school, Hitey Sangyu expressed his concern over the less participation of youths in local festivals. He said the local culture & tradition is on the verge of extinction, and therefore it's the youth's responsibility to make sure it is preserved and carried forward.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the trust, Casa Blayu said that this kind of programme is being organized for the first time in such a rural part of East Kameng.(IANS)
