Union demands halt on IAF bombing drills

Itanagar, June 30: Claiming that the frequent bombing exercise conducted by the IAF has proved to be a threat to the lives and properties of the locals of Dollungmukh area under Kamle district, the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) has pressed for Arunachal Governor's intervention into the matter.

In a representation addressed to the Governor, the Union stressed on the confinement of the designated bombing area within a concrete boundary walls, saying frequent bombing exercise has traumatized the local people of Dollungmukh.

On June 6 and 8 last, during the bombing exercise, a retired jawan of Sashashtra Seema Bal had sustained serious injury and at least four mithuns (Bos frontalis) were killed.

Stating that bombing exercise carried out by the IAF is threatening the very existence of the locals living in the vicinity, the Union appealed the Governor to intervene and immediately help stop the ongoing exercise and arrangement an emergency meeting with IAF to draw a permanent mechanism to shift the bombing area to a no man's land.

Meanwhile, highlighting the problems being faced by the locals due to inter-state boundary disputes and alleged illegal encroachments by Assam side, the Union demanded the state government to immediately post a senior administrative officer in the rank of EAC or SDO to monitor emergency situation in the area.
