ITANAGAR: Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju will lead the International Yoga Day to be celebrated at Dong in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

Dong is the easternmost village in the Anjaw district near the point where India, China and Myanmar meet. Dong experiences the first sunrise in the country.

The Union Ministry of Ayush is observing the International Day of Yoga at 75 iconic locations across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lead the programme from Mysuru, Karnataka.

The theme for this year's celebration is 'Yoga for Humanity'.

Celebrations will be held across the world in a grand manner completely embedding it with the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The core purpose of the day is to create mass awareness regarding the health benefits of Yoga for the people. Over the years, the day has become a mass movement for health.

The Yoga events would be held as per the standard operating procedure circulated by the Ministry of Ayush.

Meanwhile, State Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Monday called upon the people of the State to be part of Yoga Day, the great universally popular movement initiated by the Prime Minister.

Mishra expressed hope that the event would be conducted at all levels, from State, district and block to panchayat levels in an impressive manner and motivate one and all to practice Yoga.

The Governor said that Yoga is truly an invaluable gift of ancient sublime way of living in India.

"The concept and practice of Yoga originated in Hindustan thousands of years ago. It embodies unity of mind and body. It promotes unison amongst the people and concord between the man and the nature. It encourages the holistic approach to health, harmony and happiness," he said.

Mishra added that Yoga ensures physical and mental well-being of the people who pursue it. It is on account of this unique value of Yoga that it has been gaining popularity throughout the world, irrespective of caste, creed, region, religion or race.

"We need to integrate Yoga as part of our daily routine. It carries the rare boon of hope for facing the contemporary mental and physical stresses with ease and comfort, by one and all," he said.

The Governor called upon the people to participate in the event with zeal and zest for healthier lifestyle, healthier Arunachal Pradesh, healthier nation and world.
