University Grants Commission (UGC) Panel To Probe Fake Certificate Racket

Itanagar: Union Human Resources has asked University Grants Commission (UGC) to constitute a high level committee to probe fake certificate racket as alleged against Himalayan University here.
The HRD ministry while has taken serious note of a news item flashed by a TV channel recently alleging nationwide racket in making degrees of recognized universities available for a price without attending classes and appearing examinations, has asked University Grants Commission (UGC) to constitute a high level committee.
The committee should identify the institutions and individuals who have resorted to such illegal practices and suggest deterrent measures such persons as such practices are not possible without the connivance of functionaries of such universities.
The UGC has set up five-member committee headed by Delhi Technological University vice chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh with UGC additional secretary Dr Dev Swarup as coordinating officer and Inter-University Accelerator Centre director Prof A C Pandey, National Judicial Academy additional director Prof D P Verma, former JNU registrar Prof K P S Unny as members, said an UGC order issued by secretary Prof Rajnish Jain.
The Himalayan University, which was established here in 2013, had denied such charges. Its registrar Vivel Mittal in a circular had clarified that it has lodged complaint with New Delhi police station and Itanagar police station against one Chamn Kishore, who was allegedly selling mark sheets of the university.
Police sources, when asked said that case cannot be registered once registered in any police station on the same issue but inquiry has been launched.
