BORRDUMSA: Sensations prevailed in Namsai town of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday following clashes between sections of Miri-Mising people supported by Adi Student Union (AdiSU) and security forces during the course of a peaceful rally being taken out from the New Mabira village.

The rally across Namsai town by the Miri-Missing people was taken out to protest against “the failure of the police” to nab the culprit involved in defiling a community centre of AdiSU.

Few days back, miscreants had torched houses and broke into and damaged the community hall at Khai Nallan near the Mabira village inhabited by the Miri-Missing people who settled in the then Lohit district (present Namsai) during the regime of former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Gegong Apang.

The AdiSU also raised the demands for the immediate rehabilitation of the people of the village besides booking the culprits involved in the notorious act and rebuilding the sacred community hall.

Meanwhile, the DC Namsai vide official notification had declared the rally as illegal and several columns of security forces were deployed in the place. Barricades were erected near the bridge and demonstrators were resisted to move forward which subsequently resulted in pelting of stones, baton charge and firing tear gas by the forces to disperse the mob. There were reports of casualties on both sides.

The Deputy Commissioner Namsai B Talukdar informed The Sentinel that an FIR to the effect has already been registered. “A team comprising the police and officials of the administration was also constituted to ascertain the facts accordingly.
