ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Voice Against Black Marketing (AVABM) demanded that the authorities initiate prompt action to stop illegal mining of coal at Kharsang and Namchik under Changlang district, on Friday.

AVABM president Pumcho Tapuk claimed that some individuals are illegally excavating and supplying coal from various coal fields at Kharsang and Namchik circle under Changlang district.

He said that such activities are being carried out without maintaining formalities in violation of the gazette notification issued by the State Geology & Mining department.

Pumcho also stated that frequent excavation of coal is not only taking its toll on the local population in terms of health but is also causing economic losses and environmental damages.

Meanwhile, the association following its meeting on the matter has resolved to stop illegal coal mining through check gates at Kharsang, Namchik, Buri Dihing, Bordumsa, Dirak and New Mohong.

The association has also resolved to launch a democratic movement if the authorities fail to stop the illegal coal mining.

In this regard, the AVABM submitted a representation to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Changlang Deputy Commissioner and other authorities concerned.
