PASIGHAT: The East Siang district administration has come up with an idea to organize weeklong activities and events to commemorate the celebration of 75th years of Indian independence.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Kinny Singh informed that the various departments of the district will be organizing a weeklong mahotsav ahead of the ensuing Independence Day celebration with befitting grandeur and enthusiasm. She said that the PHE department conducted cleanliness drive-cum-competition among the villages while the Pasighat Municipal Council organized the same among municipal wards/colonies on August 9 under 'Swachch Bharat Mission.'

''The awardees will be felicitated during the upcoming Independence Day celebration,'' she added.

A de-addiction awareness campaign at the Pasighat Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center was held on Wednesday as a part of the celebration.

WASE (Women Against Social Evil) president Yamik Dulom Darang and secretary Joya Tasung Moyong delivered motivational speeches on 'change from addiction to recovery'.

The duo asserted that the organization would continue to fight against social evils in order to make East Siang in particular and the State as a whole a better place to live in.

Many officials also spoke on the day and appreciated the untiring efforts of the WASE mothers; and, stated that they have set an example for the entire State and the nation as a whole.
