ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh on Friday observed the 'World Environment Day' with Governor Brig (retd) Dr B D Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu planting tree saplings to mark the occasion.

The Governor along with his wife Neelam Misra participated in the plantation programme organized at Raj Bhavan, here. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mishra called upon the people of the State to benevolently pledge and commits themselves to protect and sustain the pristine environment of the State.

The Governor exhorted the people, particularly youth and students to preserve the treasured nature's gift in the state and at the same time assist in the process of development. He advised all to protect the flora and fauna, keep the rivers clean and dispose of the garbage in appropriate manner, a Raj Bhawan communiqué informed.

"It is the duty of every citizen with dedicated and farsighted plans and actions to leave a better earth for the future generations," the Governor said and advised all the participants to look after the plant they have planted and ensure that their plant grows well into lofty trees. Early in the morning, Chief Minister Khandu planted saplings in the area around his residence.

"To care for humanity is to care for nature. Today on the World Environment Day,let us all take the pledge to preserve and protect the nature. Went on plantation drive this morning. It's time for all of us to take action and restore our natural world," Khandu tweeted.
