ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Minister Alo Libang gave away prizes to the winners of the month-long online video contest organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS), on September 1. The digital campaign on HIV was carried out during August to mark the 'International Youth Day'.

Speaking to the winners, Libang asked the youths of the State to be more vigilant nd remain safe from various diseases. While appreciating the youths for their participation in the video contest, he exhorted them to ensure that the masses remain safe.

"HIV awareness activities should not be just participating for winning prizes and awards but should be a responsibility as a part of social service," he said, adding that the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities must reach out to more people and create awareness among the populace. Director of Health Services, Dr. M. Lego appealed to the youths to play a vital role in creating awareness about HIV. "As there is no definite cure to HIV, knowledge about the virus and its transmission is very important to prevent its spread," he said, adding that the people should not stigmatise people living with HIV. APSACS Project Director, Dr Riken Rina said that the participation of a large number of youths in the campaign on COVID-19 pandemic has come as a blessing in disguise as it allowed APSACS to go online with its HIV campaign. "The State has many budding talents and the APSACS online video contest has provided an opportunity to tap such hidden talents," he added.

The first three rankers got cash awards of Rs 15,000; Rs 10,000; and Rs 5,000 (in cash) respectively besides mementoes and certificates.
