GUWAHATI: Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), G. P. Singh, announced on Tuesday that five people had been taken into custody by Arunachal Pradesh authorities on suspicion of killing two Assam youths in the border district of Dhemaji.

He added that the five suspects would be turned over to Assam police after following the proper protocol.

Taking on Twitter, G.P. Singh informed that, “Reference the firing incident at the Assam-Arunachal border in Dhemaji & Gogamukh PS case No. 63/23 u/s 147/148/302/326/307 IPC r/w 25 (1) (a)/27 (3) of Arms Act - Arunachal Police has arrested 5 accused persons.

On the other hand, the next of kin of the deceased killed in the Dhemaji fire incident would receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh, according to the Assam Government. Ranoj Pegu, the education minister, informed the public of this on Tuesday.

He stated that the wounded parties, Jagat Gogoi and Puspa Gogoi, will receive Rs. 1 lakh each in addition to an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh to the relatives of the deceased, Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi.

Taking on Twitter, Education Minitsre Ranoj Pegu stated that, “HCM @himantabiswa has conveyed that the next of kin of the victims of Dhemaji firing incident - Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi will be given ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each. The injured persons, Shri Jagat Gogoi and Sri Puspa Gogoi will be given Rs. 1 lakh each. @PradanBaruah @DhemajiDipro1 @DhemajiPolice @BhubonPegu”

According to reports, it should be noted that a shooting incident on Monday morning in Dhemaji resulted in the deaths of two people and the injuries of another two. The incident was reported from the Panbari neighborhood in Dhemaji, close to the Assam-Arunachal border.

There has been no official confirmation that the attack was carried out by criminals from Arunachal Pradesh, despite reports to the contrary.
