10 eminent personalities of the State conferred with awards by Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad and Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad and Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra of Lakhimpur conferred their eight awards on Sunday to 10 eminent personalities of the State.

This year, the award distribution committee of the institutions selected popular writer Dr. Nirmal Sahewalla and lyrist and dramatist Syed Saadulla for the Sahitya Jyoti Award while literary activists Bhava Prasad Deori of Diphu and Nabin Burhagohain of Sivasagar were selected for the Katha Baibhav Award. On the other hand, Lakhimpur Telahi Kamalaboria College Principal Dr. Bubul Kumar Saikia was selected for the Shiksha Saurabha Award and poet Dr. Ramesh Kumar Kakati was selected for the Kabya Sudha Award.

Similarly, the institution selected academician and social activist Dr Hamidur Rahman for the Manab-Dorodi Award, Jogen Tamuli, who has been preserving books, journals, magazines with his individual endeavours, for the Grantha Sumangal Award, environmental activist Narayan Baruah for the Prakriti Bandhu Award and entrepreneur Boloram Saikia for the Swa-Jyoti Award.

All of these prominent personalities were conferred the respective awards in a unique programme organized in the conference hall of Lakhimpur Telahi Kamalaboria College. However, Nabin Burhagohain could not attend the programme to take his award. The programme which began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr. Hamidur Rahman and a chorus by the students of Ganar Aradhana Sangeet Vidyalaya, was chaired by editor of Saumarjyoti and social activist Uday Sankar Hazarika. Director of Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad, Jiten Baruah explained the objective of the programme while Dr. Bubul Kumar Saikia delivered the welcome address.

Accepting the award, Dr Nirmal Sahewalla stressed strengthening and safeguarding the Assamese language. He said that the real image of the society must be reflected in literature. Similarly, Syed Saadullah, who is the popular dignitary of Dibrugarh Radio, expressed his optimism in amelioration of Assamese art and culture.

The fifth collection of poetry by poet Tirtha Das, Asthar Slogan, was released by Guwahati based journalist Prashanta Borah in the same programme. The special issue of the journal Mangalmoy Patrika, published on the occasion of its six years, was released by Dr. Nirmal Sahewalla.
