DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, the 104th foundation day of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) was observed by Barhapjan Sakha Xahitya Xabha on Sunday.

The programme got underway with unfurling of the AXX flag by Arjun Baruah, president, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) followed by paying of tribute by secretary of TZXX, Manoram Bora. Chaban Dhekial Phukan, president of Barhapjan Sakha Xahitya Xabha (BSXX), garlanded the portrait of Xahitya Kandari Padmanath Gohain Baruah, the first president of Axam Xahitya Xabha while Baputi Handique, secretary of BSXX, lit the ceremonial lamp.

On the other hand, former minister Dileswar Tanti inaugurated the renovated building of BSXX with public donation which was lying in a dilapidated condition due to non-maintenance for last 40 years. Tanti in his speech appealed to AXX to embrace the tea-tribes community, which is an integral part of the Assamese society, into its fold and donated a few copies of three books written by him to the BSXX library. The tree plantation programme was initiated by Lalit Gogoi, working president of Assam Handball Association. Thereafter, a symposium on the foundation day was held with Arjun Baruah, president of TZXX as co-ordinator. President Arjun Baruah released a hand-written book of poems by Malina Begum. After presentation of the theme song of AXX, Chirasene himor bhakha janoni, child artiste Tridip Dhekial Phukan played on keyboard a Bhupendra Sangeet. Rupamoni Hazarika recited a poem while Amiya Saikia, Malina Begum and Jaisurya Bora recited their self-composed poems.
