GOLAGHAT: Amidst COVID-19 pandemic, the people who are living under Dergaon, Khumtai and Bokakhat revenue circles in Golaghat district are facing massive flood problems. Most of the villages in the revenue circles in Golaghat district are under floodwater. People and animals are taking shelter on the road side and on the highlands.

According to official records, on Sunday till filling this report over 1,08,353 people of 76villages under Khumtai, Dergaon and Bokakhat revenue circle in Golaghat district have been affected by floods due to the rising water of the Brahmaputra river. The flood victims are taking shelter in highlands and roadside. At present, the Brahmaputra is flowing 1.93 metres above the danger level and the Dhansiri river is also flowing above the danger level.

The district administration has stepped up rescue and rehabilitation efforts and has taken immediate steps to provide relief material to the flood affected people.

According official reports of the last 24 hours, 20 villages under Khumtai revenue circle, 6 villages under Dergaon revenue circle and 50 villages under Bokakhat revenue circle have been affected in this wave of flood. Altogether, 1220.55 hectares of agricultural land is currently under water while total livestock affected is 11,880 (7620 big and 4260 small).

Seven relief camps have been set up in at Bokakhat.

Total 37 relief distribution centres have been set up in the district. So far, 402.708 quintals of rice, 74.17 quintals of dal, 23 quintals of salt and 2225.1 litres of mustard oil had been distributed among the flood affected people. A total of 56 persons were evacuated from flood affected areas in an operation carried out by SDRF teams.
