11 Injured as Police Vehicle Rams into Parked Truck in Silchar

SILCHAR: A police vehicle with police personnel and accused on board, encountered an accident on the night of Tuesday. As a result of the accident, eight members of the police team and two accused sustained injuries.

The accident took place in the Ramnagar bypass in Silchar when the police team was taking two under trials for medical check-ups at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The Tata Sumo vehicle with all 11 people including eight policemen, two accused and the driver hit a truck parked on the side of the road. The impact threw the driver out of his vehicle onto the highway.

The injured police personnel were identified as Ajit Nath Laskar, Sushen Suklabaidya, Babul Hussain, Habib Uddin, Surman Ali, Kalim Uddin, Nazrul Hussain and Abdul Qadir. Two of the accused and the driver named Rahul sustained injuries in the accident.

Local people rushed to the spot and rescued the injured after the accident and shifted them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. According to police sources, the two accused, who are under trial in Karimganj jail, were taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital on the orders of the court for treatment by a team of Karimganj police. The accident took place when the group was on their way back to Karimganj at the end of the necessary medical procedure. Out of the injured, the conditions of two police personnel are said to be critical. They are Sushen Suklabaidya and Ajit Das and are currently under intensive care.

SP Cachar Numal Mahatta rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital soon after the accident and took stock of the situation.

The exact reasons for the accident are not known as of now.
