Kokrajhar: Tension prevailed after a minor girl was allegedly raped by a quack on Saturday morning under Runikhata police station in Chirang district on Saturday. Minister Chandan Brahma, the Superintendent of Police and Additional SP visited the spot and took stock of the situation. The accused has been identified as Azgar Ali from Bilasipara in Dhubri district. He is on run after the incident came to light. According to sources, the victim, a mentally challenged minor girl, was under the treatment of the quack since sometime. On Saturday morning, the accused visited the victim’s house for her treatment. She was alone in the house and taking advantage of the situation, he allegedly raped the 11-year old girl.
“Ali visited us today and after treating my daughter, he gave medicines amounting to Rs 1,000. As I did not have much cash in hand, I went out to collect the money from neighbours. When I returned, I found him forcing himself on her,” said the victim’s mother. After hearing the woman’s screams, the local villagers tried to catch Azgar Ali but he managed to flee. An FIR was lodged at Sidli police station and a medical examination was done at Kajalgaon hospital. The incident has sparked uproar and sensation in the area with the locals and various organizations demanding immediate arrest of the culprit and death sentence for him.
Assam Tourism Minister and Sidli MLA Chandan Brahma on Sunday visited the family and took stock of the situation. The minister urged the police to arrest the culprit and punish him. Bodoland Janajati Suraksa Manch (BJSM) working president Daorai Dekreb Narzary and his colleagues visited the victim’s house and demanded the district administration to nab the culprits soon. A team of ABSU leaders also demanded that the main culprit should not be spared and the district administration should take initiative to arrest Ali within a short period of time.
