Cattle smugglers, after lying low for the last few months, are active again. Cattle smuggling is on the rise in locations where a smart-fencing mechanism is yet to be installed. A part of smart-fencing was formally inaugurated by former Home Minister Rajnath Singh on March 26 this year.

A BSF source said that the vast riverine area and unfenced parts of border would be manned by the technology of smart fencing called BOLD QIT under CIBMS (Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System) on the line of border manning system of Israel and America.

“Only 61 km out of 134 km border in this part is now under this technology surveillance system equipped with night vision support, and any movement along the border be it trans-border cattle or other smuggling or intruder crossing the border can be intercepted and jawans of nearest border post can apprehend them within few seconds,” the source added. Talking to The Sentinel, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Trinayan Bhuyan informed that police with help of ground intelligence were gathering specific information on the illegal activities along the border and taking action accordingly. “There are some more cattle smugglers still at large and we are going after them and soon they all will be booked,” Bhuyan said.
