13-Year-Old Rape Victim From Assam Dies In Barpeta After Giving Birth

BARPETA: The terrible death of a teenage girl who was raped and forced to give birth to a kid came to light just one day after the Assam government planned to launch a widespread campaign against child marriage throughout the state.

According to sources, a 13-year-old girl passed away on January 24 at the Barpeta Medical College Hospital while receiving treatment. The dead adolescent mother is from Goalpara district's Bhuskhuli village, which is within the jurisdiction of the Rangsai police station. On January 22, night, the girl who had been sexually assaulted seven months earlier gave birth to a son at the Goalpara city hospital.

However, the newborn passed away soon after being born. The young girl, on the other hand, was admitted to Barpeta Medical College Hospital for better care since her health also declined but she was unable to endure the discomfort during treatment.

The 13-year-old was raped, according to her family, seven months ago. While the youngster was on her way to her friend's house, a 40-year-old man named Jug Sangma sexually assaulted her under duress. It should be noted that the victim's family claimed that the report of the incident was motivated by fear after the accused threatened to kill the girl if the family made public knowledge of the occurrence.

The teenage girl's untimely death while receiving treatment has sparked a strong response in the Rangsai neighbourhood of Goalpara over her rape and eventual embracing of early motherhood. The family has filed an FIR at Rangsai Police Station in Goalpara against the rapist Jug Sangma, but the police have not yet made an arrest.
