DHUBRI: 15-day Ashokaustami Mela got underway from Tuesday as Dhubri Deputy Commissioner and president of Dhubri Mela Committee, Dibakar Nath formally inaugurated the mela at a function held at the Mela Field on Tuesday evening. In his brief speech, secretary of the Mela Committee, Ganesh Sen while presenting the income and expenditures of 2022 -2023 informed that the committee earned a total revenue of Rs 12,88,000 from the last year’s mela from the shops, vendors and show items and spent over Rs 6,50,000 in donation to various religious and other institutions. Four prominent personalities of Dhubri town were also felicitated by the Mela Committee including Sawpan Acharjee, Gour Chandra Ghose, Dwarika Prasad and Biplab Kumar Paul for their selfless contribution in the various fields of social works. Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Dibakar Nath while wishing all appealed to the people to celebrate the festivity with a fervour of peace and amity.
