15-day long workshop on Bihu dance and dhol badan gets underway in Sivasagar

GAURISAGAR: AASU Hatighuli regional unit of Sivasagar district committee has organized a 15-day long workshop on Bihu dance and dhol badan at the premises of Hatighuli MV School on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district. The workshop got underway from Sunday.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by AASU education secretary Sarat Hazarika. Inaugurating the workshop, Hazarika said that nowadays Bihu meant Bihu Sanmilan where glamorous artistes performed songs. But competitions in dhol badan, pepa badan and gagana were slowly losing their value.

In the inaugural function, Assam Assembly Press Secretary Horen Buragohain took part as a distinguishd guest. He said that under the leadership of Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, an initiative had been taken for the development of Assamese art and culture.

In the workshop, recipient of Latasil Bihurani-2017 Award, Rajashree Nath performed Bihu dance while noted vocal artist Barbi Borah performed Bihu songs which enthralled the audience. In the workshop Dudu Borthakur, Pabitra Neog, Nayanjyoti Gogoi, Parash Gogoi, Reetuparna Lahon, Puja Saikia and Parishmita Phukan are the resources persons.
