DHUBRI: Around 71 cattle were seized by a joint team of Agomoni Police Station and Chagolia Outpost of Dhubri district on Saturday night. Besides this, altogether 156 cattle were seized by Dhubri Police across Dhubri district in the last 36 hours.
In this connection, two accused persons - Moinul Haque of Pokalagi under Golakganj police station and Ashraful Haque of Choto Dighaltari under the same police station of Dhubri district - were arrested. Further, a case was registered in Golakganj police station vide Case No-840/19 U/S 120(B)/379 IPC R/W Sec 11(1)(a)(b)(d) Prevention of Cruelty to the Animal Act.
The police team led by Dhubri Deputy Superintendent of Police, Trinayan Bhuyan also arrested a cattle smuggler identified as Jahinur Islam of Madhusoulmari Part I village under Gauripur police station of Dhubri district on Sunday. When contacted by The Sentinel, Bhuyan informed that search and raids were being planned on the basis of clues gathered so far.
“We are trying not only to seize cattle but also to arrest the trans-border cattle smugglers involved in this illegal trade. This will continue till the illegal trade of cattle is totally wiped out from the district,” Bhuyan claimed.
