15th Captain Jintu Gogoi Veer Chakra Memorial Tournament to Kickstart from December 16

Guwahati: Fifteenth Captain Jintu Gogoi, Veer Chakra Memorial Football Tournament, organized as a tribute to Kargil martyr and the son of the soil Jintu Gogoi, is scheduled to be held from December 16, 2018 to December 28, 2018. The football tournament is being organised by ‘Dao Division’ under Operation SADBHAVANA and will be held at Army Polo Ground, Paltan Bazar, Dibrugarh.

On the occasion of the football tournament, Dibrugarh based 9th Battalion the Rajputana Rifles has given a complete makeover to historic Polo Ground. The decoration of the venue comprised of landscaping, planting trees, area beautification. The efforts and responsibleness showed by the army has impressed the locals and the district administration as well.

The football tournament will witness the participation of 18 teams that also includes two girls team along with 16 boys college teams. The opening ceremony will commence at 1230hrs on December 16 with the inaugural match to be played between Naharkatia & Khowang Girls college team.

The football tournament has come up as a platform to showcase the talent and performance of the local teams. The response received from the local teams with boy and girls showing equal enthusiasm and zeal is immense and this has been encouraging the organizers to hold the football tournament every year.

The football tournament, reaching the 15th year this year, thus, is a befitting tribute to the martyr who sacrificed his life for the sake of his nation.
