BISWANATH CHARIALI: As many as 16 construction workers fell ill due to food poisoning at Biswanath Chariali on Thursday evening. According to information, the victims were reportedly engaged in house construction work by a contractor in Babu Biswakarma's under-construction house at Madhupur, here. The incident took place while the workers consumed food after completion of the day's work. It is learned that the contractor arranged the meal at a local restaurant here.

The restaurant authorities allegedly brought the vegetables in a bucket of chemical fertilizers. Sixteen workers fell ill after eating the food. The ill workers were identified as Bircha Munda, Kiranti Nayak, Dandia Munda, Raj Swiss, Awesh Munda, Bodh Swiss, Gum Munda, Anwar Hussain, Bablu Karmakar, Amir Islam, Hasit Ali, Swapna Munda and Sanjay Bhumij. The sick workers were admitted to the Biswanath Subdivision Civil Hospital. Police investigation into the incident is going on.
