Guwahati: 16 Assam citizens who have returned amid the coronavirus-triggered lockdown and are quarantined in Saint Robert's School in Central Assam's Nagaon district, have decided to transform the mundane and replace it with colours -- in the form of flowers.
Joining hands with the local administration, the returnees set to work in the garden with spades and trowels and knives to raise life amid the international gloom of COVID. Their efforts finally paid dividends and they have finally been able to rid themselves of thoughts of the COVID with flower blossoms in the schoolyard.

Lekhnath Sarmah, a teacher from Kaliabor, who is appointed as the nodal officer in the center, reportedly undertook the initiative to beautify the school. Talking to The Sentinel Digital, Sarmah said, "Since this is a Montessori school, we believe that this flower garden will be a gift to the kids who will come to study here after the lockdown, and I can almost imagine the kids' faces lighting up with smiles when they see this garden after such a long time away from school. In these challenging times, any positive initiative which will give encouragement to people to tide over this crisis is to be welcomed. With this humble initiative, we hope to have made a difference. This can serve as a souvenir of the quarantine."

Dyutiva Borah, the Circle Officer of Kaliabor, Barbie Hazarika, the Assistant Commissioner of Kaliabor, Prashanta Bhowmick, a social activist, and Father Joseph, the principal St. Robert's school had given all kinds of help and support in this initiative that has been touted as "noble" by Koliabor locals, Sarmah told us
Gardening is a pastime for the inmates of this quarantine centre
"Day-by-day, the number of Covid affected people is increasing rapidly in the state. Thus, we have undertaken this initiative to boost morale and keep the spirits high. We were in quarantine and had nothing to do, so we got down to work. When we look at the school now, we see beauty. That is the purpose of this endeavour", one of the inmates told us, with a hint of pride in his voice.
According to the Government figures, Assam has reported 6,056 cases of the Covid-19, out of which 2,282 cases are still active. 9 patients have died due to complications from the virus so far.
