LAKHIMPUR: One more person died of COVID-19 in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district. The person was identified as Chandra Borgohain, resident of Kathorbari under Dhakuakhana Municipal Board area. He breathed his last around 11.00 pm on Friday night at his own residence. He was 62.

As per report, Chandra Borgohain suffered from fever a week ago. He approached a private doctor who advised him to get his swab tested after prescribing medicines for the fever. However, he did not get his swab tested as he was afraid and stayed at home and just took medicines for his fever. He was already suffering from diabetes and hypertension and his health condition began to deteriorate from the evening on Friday.

Chandra Borgohain lived with his younger son while his elder son stayed at Bihpuriya because of his job. Though his elder son arrived home, he died before his arrival.

After the report of his death, health personnel arrived at his home and conducted Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). The RAT result was found positive for COVID-19. His last rite was performed by Dhakuakhana subdivisional administration as per COVID-19 protocol at the designated cremation ground of Dhakuakhana town.

In this connection, SDO (Civil) of Dhakuakhana Arindam Baruah, said that the residential area of the deceased person was declared as containment zone and the places around 500 metre radius of the containment zone was declared as buffer zone. "The local people, who were present at his home during his death, have put themselves in quarantine at a school building of the area without going to their houses," added the SDO (Civil) of Dhakuakhana.

On the other hand, a total of 155 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Lakhimpur on Friday and Saturday. Of them, 66 cases were found positive on Friday. Out of them, 5 cases were detected positive as per 'real time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) Test while the rest 61 cases were found positive through RAT.

A total of 69 COVID-19 patients were detected in the district on Saturday till the time of filing this report. Of them, 3 cases were found positive as per rRT-PCR Test while rest 66 cases were detected through RAT. On the day, 18 cases were found positive at CISF Camp located at Naoboicha while 11 cases were detected at Dhaulpur Police Outpost through RAT. With these newly-detected patients, the COVID-19 cases spiked to more than 1,000 in the district on Saturday.
