BISWANATH CHARIALI: Police arrested 17 Bangladeshi nationals from Brahmaputra Chapri of Baghmari under Gingia police station in Biswanath district on Saturday for the violation of visa rules. Biswanath police detained the Bangladeshis after they had received information that a group from Bangladesh with a tourist visa were illegally preaching religion in Baghmari area in Biswanath. The Bangladeshi team reportedly came to visit religious places like Ajmer Sharif in India.

According to Nabin Singh, Superintendent of Police, Biswanath, the team had reached Baghmari in Biswanath on September 13 by bus from Kooch Behar. Among the group, there is a religious guru named Syed Ashraful Alam. The remaining 16 Bangladeshi nationals of the group are said to be disciples of the religious guru. The religious guru along with his disciples propagated the religion at Brahmaputra Chapri, a very remote area of Baghmari in Biswanath. In addition, the religious guru took about 500 people as his disciples in the area. Two local persons named Samsul Hoque and Jeherul Hoque were also arrested by police for providing shelter to the group.
