17 Workers of Assam Forcefully Detained in Arunachal Pradesh by Construction Company

GUWAHATI: The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) on Sunday has alleged that 17 workers who are residents of Assam have been forcefully 'detained' allegedly by a road construction company in which there are working in Arunachal Pradesh.

While speaking to the media the members of AASAA claimed that the workers have been detained since August 16 this year.

The workers were identified as Deep Tanti, Subham Tanti, Pradip Pandav, Tankeswar Das, Biju Telenga, Dimbeswar Telenga, Sankar Masuwa, Bijoy Sasoni, Bishal Munda, Binod Munda, Arjun Nayak, Krishna Bhumiz, Ramesh Gatowar, Uday Rawat, Dharmeswar Bhumiz, Yadav Manki and Badal Manki.

"These 17 workers were from Khongia and Krishna Bihari tea gardens under Demow police station in Sivasagar district went to Arunachal Pradesh for a project to construct a national highway. They are being harassed and threatened with dire consequences by the officials of the construction company over leaving the project in the mid-way", the members of the AASAA claimed.

The AASAA has alleged that these 17 workers went to Arunachal Pradesh under two contractors identified as Nitul Sarma and Manab Tanti from Moran have been also detained by the construction company.

The AASAA also knock on the door of the Sivasagar Police Superintendent requesting him to intervene into the matter and to rescue all the 17 detained workers.

Complaints also filed with the Demow police station on Sunday by the family members of the 17 workers.

Earlier, All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA), Demow Regional Committee a the demonstration was staged in front of Demow Police Station demanding steps to stop gambling in the name of cockfight. AASAA Demow Regional Committee alleged that by violating the high court prohibitory order, gambling in the name of cockfight was held in various areas of Demow. Later, under the leadership of David Bania, president, and Lalit Tanti, secretary of AASAA, Demow Regional College, a memorandum was submitted to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sivasagar district through the Demow Circle Officer.
