19th Rongjali Bwisagu Fwrbw witnesses enthusiastic participation from people of all walks of life

Kokrajhar: The 19th Rongjali Bwisagu Fwrbw and 16th Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma Memorial Bwisagu Fwrbw were celebrated in a colourful way at Tengapara in Kokrajhar on Sunday. People from all walks of life and Bwisagu dance troupes from different places took part in the open Bwisagu dance and competition as well.

As part of the programme, the president of the celebration committee, Bhubaneswar Brahma hoisted the flag of the committee in the morning followed by inauguration of poem recitation among school children by writer Arun Borgoyary and blind hit completion by retired Vice-Principal of Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Kokrajhar, Ashok Brahma while Bwisagi Khungri dance competition and Bwisagu song competition were inaugurated by Bhajanath Narzary, former president of the observance committee. Meanwhile, Bwisagu group dance competition was inaugurated by Jogeswar Brahma, working president of Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA). The 15th issue of the souvenir Bwisagi was also released on the occasion.

Talking to reporters, the secretary of the organizing committee, Bikash Basumatary alias Laloo said the organizing committee had been organizing the traditional Bwisagu festival every year along with the Assamese new year. He said that many troupes and individuals from various places of Kokrajhar joined in the celebration enthusiastically. He also said that the traditional art and culture of the Bodos were being protected.

Basumatary said the winner of the Bwisagi Khungri dance competition would be given Rs 10,000 and gold plated crown of Rs. 1 lakh. He also said the group dance and dual dance winners would be given cash prize while the winners of poem recitation and art competitions, including blind hit competitions, would be given certificates.
