BONGAIGAON: Sensation gripped Assam’s Bongaigaon district on Thursday following the recovery of two bodies hanging from a tree in a paddy field. The deceased have been identified as Jibesh Dutta Barua of Jolakhata and Lakhi Sarkar of Bajipara. According to an eyewitness, a local resident discovered the bodies while taking his cows to the field early in the morning. “When I saw both the bodies, I immediately informed the villagers and the police,” he told reporters.

Preliminary suspicion pointed to an alleged illicit relationship between the two. Locals say that Lakhi, though married, had been living at her parental home for the past eight months. Jibesh was also reported to be married. The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities have not ruled out other possibilities and said that they were exploring all angles.
