Guwahati: Two students pursuing their MBBS at the Silchar Medical College and hospital were brutally beaten up by CISF personnel on Monday.

Abdul Sattar, one of the victims, said they went for an essential meeting to iron out mess related issues when they were beaten up. "When I requested to let us go he started abusing us and then he asked us to call the in-charge of Ghungoor Police outpost and said he would only allow us to go if the in-charge says so", he said.

He added that by the time he dialed the in charge, the official started beating him and his friend. The police later reached the hostel and asked for their statement, as the CISF official already complained against them. The students went to the Principal who then summoned the CISF official to gather knowledge about the incident.

Sattar, also the president of SMCH union stated that the CISF personnel was asked to apologize which he did not, and rather started misbehaving with the SMCH authority.

Cachar SP Superintendent of Police Manabendra Dev Ray later said that the path through which the boys were traveling is sealed. "They had no business using that path to travel to the boy's hostel", he added.

The SP also informed that both the students were spotted using the path several times despite being asked not to. "They continued to do so, and this prompted the official to resort to lathi-charge", he said.

The Principal of SMCH, Babul Bezbaruah condemned the incident and said "Whatever the reason might be, the official cannot take law in his hand and beat the students in the manner that he has"

He also added that if the students did something wrong, the CISF could have complained to him and he would have taken necessary actions against the students. Later, Bezbaruah was informed by the SP that the CISF official will be replaced.
