Guwahati: Indian army troopers and Assam police jointly apprehended two cadres of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaak-Muivah) (or NSCN-M) near Ledo in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district on June 14.

The cadres were apprehended by the team of joint forces after they launched an operation based on specific intelligence. The arrested insurgents have been identified as self-styled Lieutenant Colonel Rampong Hakhun alias Johny and self-styled Sargeant Kochung Sangkey.

It is suspected that the individuals were actively involved in subversive and extortion activities in Upper Assam, officials said. The team also recovered one foreign-made 9mm pistol, one .22 pistol, 10 live rounds of ammunition, and Rs 10,000 in cash from the cadres.

"The apprehension of the said insurgents has instilled a sense of confidence in the local population and has dealt a major blow to the proscribed outfit. The apprehended individuals have been handed over to Ledo Police Station for further investigations", said officials.
