DOOMDOOMA: The 20th death anniversary of noted writer, journalist and cine critic Nirod Chaudhury was observed by Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX) in a solemn function held on Monday under the presidentship of Bimala Baruah.

In the beginning, the ceremonial lamp was lit before the portrait of the writer by Arjun Baruah, president of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX). Dwelling on the life of the writer whose formative period took shape amidst greenery and in abundance due to lush green tea gardens all around the place, Journalist Dhiren Deka reminisced about the manifold qualities of the writer Nirod Chaudhury who penned various stories and novels in the backdrop of this important tea city of Upper Assam. In a sense, he shot the place into fame so as to attract the attention of the outside world by making the film Chameli Memsab, based on a short story of him portraying the real life character of a tea garden with immense humanitarian touch.

The meeting was also addressed by poet Indu Dutta Uzir, noted social worker Gobind Phukan and president of TZXX, Arjun Baruah. On the other hand, Mukul Deka read out a self-composed poem while Prapti Das beautifully rendered a song.
