GOALPARA: With the rising fear of community transmission in the State, at least 21 persons from different fields tested COVID-19 on Friday in Goalpara district. Among the total 21 positive cases on a single day, six persons, including Dr Dipankar Sarma, tested positive at the Al-Salam Hospital of Goalpara town's Hasilapara area. Five other employees in the hospital - Inam Uddin, Abbas Ali, Jakirul Islam, Nafija Khatun and Gopi Rabha – also tested positive.

On the other hand, two staff members of Florence Hospital, another private nursing home, have also been infected. They are Jilar Hussain and Rupjyoti Rabha. Significantly, an Army jawan from the Baida camp, Tej Bahadur Srestha, also tested positive on Friday leading to the fear of more people in the camp testing positive in the coming days.

Among the other COVID-19 positive people, three are from Bordamal area, two from Bohoti Bhatipara, one each from Rongjuli, Dhanubhanga, Bordak, Krishnai, Simlitola tea garden, Nolonga and GNM Centre of Goalpara Civil Hospital. With these 21, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district stood at 57 till Friday. Four persons have been released after the recovery.
