226th edition of Baresohoriya Bhaona begins in Jamugurihat

JAMUGURIHAT: “Historic city Tezpur is blessed with the mighty visit of Lord Shiva and Bishnu during the historic Harihar war which gives a dignified value to the beautiful town. Jamugurihat, being an adjoining place to the historic town is blessed with cultural and spiritual aspects. The xatras and temples here played a significant role in moulding the Sankari culture and age old traditions. Baresohoriya Bhaona is a unique creation of village life of the Assamese society which gives a unique identity to this area,” this was observed by Biswajit Daimari, speaker, Assam Assembly during the inaugurating of the cultural and religious procession of Baresohoriya Bhaona festival on Monday.

The highly awaited 226th edition of Baresohoriya Bhaona began on Monday. The cultural and the religious procession along with ‘Gunamala puthi’ from Borbhagia namghar proceeded through Jamuguri commercial centre and ended at Pokamura Pothar, the bhaona site. Speaker of state Assembly inaugurated the procession. Nearly twenty thousand people from the Assamese society, Mising, Gurkha, Rabha, Karbi, Bodo, Tiwa community joined the procession in traditional attires along with the teams of gayan bayan, Bihu team. The spectacular procession attracted the attention of the passersby and general public. At the end of the procession, the Singhasan and Gunamala were established in the centre of bhaona exhibition site. Mahendra Bhuyan inaugurated the bhaona exhibition site followed by smriti tarpan offered by Phulmai Hazarika. Deva Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur inaugurated the stalls of exhibition. In the evening, Gandhotsav festival was held in 21 kholas. The second day programme will begin with Nam Prasanga in the morning followed by release of the souvenir. Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, former DGP, Assam Police will release the souvenir which will be presided over by eminent litterateur Kanaksen Deka.

A three-day photo exhibition-cum-outreach programme organized by Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional office, Guwahati began on Monday at Baresahariya Bhaona, Jamugurihat. The photo exhibition was inaugurated by Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, Sonitpur DC Debakumar Mishra, journalist Pranjit Saikia. The theme of the exhibition is Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and 8 years of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan.
