LAKHIMPUR: Due to heavy and incessant showers, torrential rain in Lakhimpur and neighbouring State of Arunachal, the first wave of flood has affected new villages in the district.

The overflowing water of the River Subansiri inundated 14 more villages under Bihpuriya Revenue Circle (RC). These villages are Dhunaguri, Dhunabari Khanikar No. 1 Adhakhona, Bahgora Deuri, Bholukaguri, No. 1 Chenimora Kankur, Bahgora Pathar, Purani Bahgora, Pabho Bhekeli, No. 1 Kaniajan, No. 2 Kaniajan, No. 1 Aunibari, No. 2 Aunibari and No. 2 Chenimora Kankur.

On the other hand, the flash flood caused by the river hit the Hindu Adarsha Gaon under North Lakhimpur RC. The No. 1 Gelahati under Naoboicha RC was also hit by flood caused by the River Shingara afresh.

The flood situation of Namoni Dorge, Kadam Bagan Gaon, Kadam Boro Gaon, Kadam Na-Bhagania, Kadam Mising Gaon under Kadam RC, Bongali Gaon under Bihpuriya RC, Rangajan Dafala Gaon, Sessa Mising Gaon, Rangajan Mising Gaon, Bashishthapur, Navapur, Ouguri, Rajabari, Rangajan, Phutabhog, Kalmouguri, Majordoloni under Narayanpur RC, Amtola PGR, Bongaon, Shantipurn, Bishnupur, Molowal Gaon Dowarpar, Chanong Gaon, Kathalguri under North Lakhimpur RC and Panchnoi area under Naoboicha RC remained the same.

The release of excess water from the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) continues through the River Ranganadi for the sixth day. On Tuesday, after the release of water from the Ranganadi dam by opening the Dam Gate No. 5 by 1100mm from 3.00pm, the same was released by opening the same gate by 1400mm from 7.30pm and by 1800mm from 11.30pm. The gate was opened by 1400mm from 4.30am, by 1200mm from 7.00am on Wednesday while the gate was opened by 1000mm from 10.00am till the time of filing of this report.

According to information from the district administration, a total of 23 revenue villages have been hit by the present wave of deluge. A total of 2,970 people, 443.6 hectares of crop area, 408 big animals and 32 small animals were affected by the flood on Wednesday.
