24-hour Bandh by Coordination Committee of Tribal Organisations & ABSU paralyzes Normal Life in Bijni

Bijni/Naharkatia: The 24-hour band called by the Coordination Committee of Tribal Organisations and ABSU on Friday against the Government for proposing to grant the status of Scheduled Tribes (ST) to six indigenous communities in Assam paralyzes normal life in Bijni under Chirang District.

As per reports, both the bodies burned tyres in the morning hours and also burnt the effigies of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal.

It may be mentioned that the violent protesters were later obstructed by the police to control down the situation. However, the angry protesters then started to chant slogans against Assam Police “Go Back Assam Police”.

They further threatened the Government of India and Assam for massive protest until the proposal for granting the status of Scheduled Tribes (ST) to six indigenous communities in Assam is not scraped.

On the other hand, a similar kind of situation was witnessed in Dibrugarh’s Naharkatia. Apart from private cars the region witnessed complete silence since the wee hours today.

It may be mentioned that all the shops, Government offices including banks remained closed in Naharkatia today.
