24-hour Dima Hasao bandh hits normal life

Haflong: The 24-hour Dima Hasao bandh called by Dimasa Students’ Union, Hmar Students’ Association, Hrankhol Students’ Association, All Biate Students’ Association, Khasi Students’ Association and Karbi Student Union of Dima Hasao was peaceful but it paralyzed normal life in Dima Hasao on Wednesday.

The bandh was called from 5 am of December 12 to 5 am of December 13 to demand creation of Autonomous State under Article 244 (A), to stop granting BLT Accord clause-8 and to scrap the BLT Accord clause-8. Most of the offices remained closed except the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police which recorded thin attendance. Market and other establishments also remain closed. Public and private vehicles were off the road. No untoward incident has been reported so far. Impact of the bandh was felt at Langting, Umrangso and Maibang but the bandh was peaceful.
