24 people from Lakhimpur stranded in Fani-hit Odisha

LAKHIMPUR: A group of 24 people from Harmutty of Lakhimpur district have been stranded in severe tropical cyclone Fani-hit Odisha. They had gone to Odisha in order to visit the Jagannath Temple at Puri on April 27. The pilgrimage was organized by senior Railway Engineer Bharat Pandey who is working at the Harmutty junction in the district under Rangia Railway Division of North-Eastern Railway. Bharat Pandey and his wife Swapna Pandey were also part of the group.

The other 22 persons in the group are Biren Hazarika, Kameswar Borah, Bakul Neog, Niran Saikia, Lokeswar Borah, Narayan Saikia, Indreswar Saikia, Sailen Borah, Girish Borah, Purna Saikia, Uma Borah, Debananda Chutia, Kunu Hazarika, Makan Hazarika, Beena Mahanta, Punya Dutta, Putali Saikia, Tarun Borah, Dhanada Borah, Trishna Devi, Narayan Hazarika and Manju Hazarika. Earlier, it was reported that they were staying in a guest house at Puri near Jagannath Temple. As communication links have been disrupted due to the cyclone, the families of these 24 people have not been able to contact them.
