2.6 magnitude earthquake hits Assam's Kokrajhar district

Guwahati: Assam's Kokrajhar region has been jolted by a low-intensity earthquake in the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 16.

Officials said that the earthquake, measuring 2.6 magnitude on the richer scale, occurred at 13:09:30 pm in the afternoon at latitude 26.49 North and longitude 90.12 East at a depth of 11 kilometers. No damages to life or property has been reported so far.

On the same day, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter Scale jolted the city of Rajkot in Gujarat on Thursday morning at 7:40 am. The National Center for Seismology confirmed the earthquake striking Rajkot in Gujarat.

This latest tremor has been reported at a time when the Northeast Indian region has been hit by a series of quakes. Mizoram, especially, has proved to be an earthquake-prone region in the recent past with a series of earthquakes hitting the hilly state.
