27th State-level NCSC meet concludes at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

DOOMDOOMA: The 27th State-level National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), 2019 which began on November 1 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) of Tinsukia district situated at Rangajan, came to conclusion on Monday after the valedictory function held under the chairmanship of Dr. Jaideep Baruah, the working president of the State organizing committee of NCSC.

Out of 26 projects that were selected for National-level NCSC to be held at Tiruvanthpuram from December 26 to December 31, the projects submitted by Hiranya Raj Sarma and Jahnabi Devi - group leader and co-worker respectively of Sonitpur district were awarded the Khagendra Nath Brahma State Child Scientist Award in lower age group while the project of Anurag Bezbaruah and Bibhash Gogoi - group leader and co-worker of Tinsukia district, was awarded the Dr. Abani Ch. Goswami State Child Scientist Award in upper age group.

This year altogether 287 projects were presented (112 projects from lower age group and 175 projects from upper age group). Of them, 145 projects were from rural areas and 63 from urban areas. Among the 33 districts that took part in the event, Tinsukia district bagged the best organizational district award while Dibrugarh district bagged the best academic district award. On the other hand, in the competition held among the magazines brought out by different districts in the respective district conferences, Bigyeya (Majuli), Anneshan (Jorhat) and Souvenir (Baska) were awarded first, second and third prizes respectively.

The valedictory was addressed by several speakers, including Dr. Jaideep Baruah, working president, Bipul Kumar Bora, president of State Academic Committee, and Jayanta Kumar Sharma, member of National Academic Committee, among others. Dr. Gauranga Dhar Baruah, distinguished professor of Physics, released the third issue of the newsletter ncsc NEWS published under the editorship of Abhijit Khataniar.

This year’s conference witnessed the highest attendance in terms of projects i.e. 287. On all the three days, there were programmes like interaction with scientists, activity corner and cultural function. The highlight of the third day’s programme on Sunday was a lecture on science writing and interaction with scientists. Sahitya Akademi Children Literature Award winner Santanu Tamuli delivered an illuminating speech on the subject while Dr. Jai Singh Parihar, the former director of NESAC, answered many questions on India’s space exploration and also about the Chandrayan - 2 mission.
